Liu Zemian, born in September 1937 in Shiwan., Guangdong. Chinese National Great Master of Arts and Crafts, Chinese Great Master of Ceramic Arts. He is the 4th generation of famous Liu’s pottery workshop.
In 1980, Liu Zemian began to create "18 Arhats." In order to shape the eighteen arhats in his heart, he and his younger brother Liu Bing and his son Liu Zhaojin formed a team. The three men braved the heat of June and traveled to Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Shanxi, Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, Henan, Qiongzhu Temple in Yunnan, Nanhua Temple in Guangdong, the treasure house of Buddhist statues to inspect the ancient statues.
Hard work pays off, in 1981, "18 Arhats" was finally completed. His work pioneered a set of eighteen Arhat Shiwan pottery figures. Later, he was also invited to give the whole set of 18 Arhats as a national gift to Thailand.
